Things to Do in DC: Yards Park and Gravelly Point

Image
I generally like living outside of Washington, D.C. Or DC/ the city as most of us suburbanites will call it. I've even grown out of my deep hatred of driving through the city. Mostly. Parking still sucks. Which is why I'm not sure I decided to drive to Nationals Park not once but TWICE in the same week. The first night the game took a major rain delay, so we left early as baby girl got tired. I picked a game later that week so that hubby could join us. The upside to the first game was I found parking  that was a reasonable walk away for less than $10. So when we went back that Thursday, I figured we'd park in the same lot. Apparently not. The attendant said we'd have to drive another block and change down and park in the event lot which was $20. 😒😒😒😒😒😒 We park, we see the game, Nats lose. Walking back to the car, I ask hubs if he wants to walk straight back, or take the scenic route along the river and make the most of our paid parking. He opted for the ...

Unveiling "Grandstand Diva"

I won't waste too much time explaining my collection, as you can read all the background here . But for recap's sake this is the final incarnation of my final senior collection/ capstone project at PhilaU. It's titled "Grandstand Diva" and is supposed to invoke the feeling of a day at the races, namely the Triple Crown. All the constructed dresses were named after one of the tracks, and the accessories created in my elective course reflect the horse than won a race there. I now present "Grandstand Diva" The Collection Pimlico- Pimlico (named for the Preakness Stakes) is a 3/4 sleeve peplum cocktail dress featuring a low scoop back, ruched side skirt and an exposed zipper back. I just got great inside scoop on something I know you were all DYING to know! THE ANNUAL FASHION SHOW IS APRIL 27, 2013. Here's to hoping this last semester goes swimmingly and that my stuff gets in. (Even though I do think that the niche factor my collection has I should get in regardless. But I'll try to make it perfect.) PUT IT ON YO CALENDAR! This is the LAST fashion show I'd be eligible for at PhilaU, even thought I'm done academically in December. (Commencement, if you care to know, is May 12, 2013)

White Hot.

Image
So I kinda have been meaning to write this post for about two weeks. As it is, it's going to take me 2 hours or more to write this as I am half trying to pay attention in class and not look weird web surfing. I have this thing about white swimsuits. (the ones above are by Movimento and Iodice in Brazil, home of hot swimwear and hotter women). I've always found them alluring and sexy, especially on women of color like myself, the skin contrast and glow potential is amazing. In reality I never wear them because I'm afraid of Mother Nature visiting early, or the sand making it dirty, or any crazy excuse I can think of. However white is to be "white-hot"in Spring 2013, so this spring though I decided I'm going to go out on a limb and get one. Just to say I have it. Maybe if I go to a resort or on a cruise I can pull it out. Some picks I like are below, and some that are good for other body types. Hourglass This is that unreal, unattainable Sofia Vergara figure...
